Get the Best From Curly and Wavy Hair Extensions

When you purchase hair extensions with a curl or wave, always conduct a strand test as shown  below:

  • Wet a small section of the hair extension and leave to dry - Does it retain its curl pattern?
  •
  • Brush a small section of the hair extensions using a loop brush or any other hair extension compatible brush, then wet the hair extensions - Does the curl pattern reform?
If the answers to any of the above is NO - place hair neatly back into its package and return to supplier.

Generally curly and wavy hair extensions have not been pre brushed prior to packaging as a result to get the true essence of your curls and waves you will need to do the following:
  • Brush/comb the hair carefully starting from the top and working your way down, be careful not to pull as this may result in hair extensions shedding.
  •
Small Note: it is normal to experience some slight shedding with newly bought hair extensions as this is generally excess hair. However if you experience considerable shedding, contact your supplier.

  •  Wet the hair extensions, comb thru and leave to dry, this will reveal the intended curl or wave pattern of the hair extensions.
  •
  • It is important to always comb/brush wavy or curly hair extensions after the initial point whilst slightly damp to remove any tangles. A great way is to use the steam from the shower.
  •
Wavy and curly styles are the most easiest hair extensions to look after once you follow the above steps.

5 Things to note:

1. The above is true for quality Real Hair Extensions.

2. Some hair extensions will not retain curls or waves always check with your supplier if the strand test fails.

3. If you have wefted hair extensions, after conducting the strand test, always fit them first before proceeding to combing.

4. Take extra caution for longer lengths when combing or brushing as with any hair they will be more prone to tangles.

5. The tighter the curl or wave the greater attention you must pay when combing out tangles.

With Love From Harriet

YES .. Another great look from Harriet.

This look was achieved by cutting Harriet into an asymmetrical bob.

Whilst, our Harriet had already been cut with a straight fringe, you can also achieve the look  straight from the box.

Harriet before transformation

This weeks style is best created by your hairdresser. But we will take you through how our stylist achieved the look.

Harriet was washed and treated using Real hair by Clara shampoo and conditioner and placed on the models head.

Harriet was then cut in layers. Short layers no longer than 4 inches on one side gradually increasing to a maximum of 10 inches on the opposite side.

Harriet’s fringe was changed from straight lined to angular.

Harriet  was then thinned using a thinning scissors to reduce the thickness of the hair over all.

Styling tongs were used to curl hair inwards framing models face.

Resulting in a very natural looking trendy style.

Get the Look

With the Olympics well on the way and as everyone gears up for the parties and entertainment to follow. Having a great look is definitely on the agenda. We've created a look which is so easy to achieve and definitely guaranteed to turn heads.

Finally get a selection of Flexi Braids and clip into place around your newly acquired pony tail.

We have opted for black, purple and Burgundy Flexi Braids to finish off the look.

Wow what a transformation !!!

Start by placing your own hair into a single high pony tail.  We have chosen to use gel to ensure a sleek look.

You may also decide not to use gel. Main thing is to have your hair into a neat pony tail.

Use a hair band to secure in place.

Next, use a set of Flex Extend and clip each piece around the base of the pony tail.

We have chosen natural straight  18 inches and used 2 different colours.

You can choose to have your glamorous hair style in a different texture ie wavy, body wave etc and go even longer.

Real Hair by Clara Wavy

Try something new with 18 inches of natural waves.

This look easily achieved with Flex Extend Wavy for the easy fix and Semi Extend Wavy for a more permanent style. Once applied, gently smooth out the waves with a brush. This will create a subtle loose wave,

Create a parting  in the centre of your head so that hair lies on either side of your ears.

Brush one  of the sides of your hair around the nape of your head so all the hair falls on the opposite side. Use bobby pins to hold the hair in place

Spray with light holding spray and finish off with shine spray.

With Summer on its way, Opt for the perfect up do.

Go for  natural straight hair extensions. Start by creating a small bun in the back of your head. If you want the finished look to be high like Eva's, create the bun closer to the crown of your head.

Leave a small section of hair down in front.

Next  loosely wrap remaining hair around the small bun all going in the same direction and secure with pins.

Finally take the small section that has been left down and position behind your ear. You can use pins to secure in place.

Spray with medium holding spray and finish off  the look with shine spray.

Need we say more. Beautiful cascading body waves.

The beauty of this look is in the length. To get the full body, you will need 2 sets of Flex Extend  Body Wave extensions or 4 to 5 sets of  Semi Extend.

This look can be achieved straight out of the box.

Apply extensions and use your fingers to gently move the curls into position.

For a shorter sides you should consider purchasing different lengths of hair.

But we'd say go for nothing less that 28 inches for the full effect.

Can I Colour My Hair ?

This is a question asked on a continuous basis. Whilst virgin hair which has not been coloured (generally natural 1b) can be coloured, my first response is always to seek professional advise when considering colouring hair. Especially if you are not familiar with colouring hair.

If you purchase pre-coloured hair, first check with the company you purchased from to determine if you can readily colour your hair extensions. The lighter the hair extensions the more complicated the colouring process is.  For instance when you purchase Brazilian #613, The hair extensions would have been processed  in order to get the natural virgin hair extensions from dark to platinum blond. When you self colour this, you can end up in the hair turning orange, green or grey.  Furthermore, If the dye used is suboptimal, you can cause further damage to your hair extensions. Remember unlike your own hair, Hair Extensions will NOT grow back.

In the event that you have damaged your hair extensions by self colouring either contact the manufactures to determine if they can restore the hair extensions or take them to a hair salon specialised in colouring.  Both of which would incur a fee so depending on the cost you will need to decide whether to purchase a new set of hair extensions.

Does some days  feel like Winter
So far we have had winter, spring and summer all wrapped into one. We all know how this makes of feel on a day to day basis, but how does this yo yo weather affect our hair?

On day 1 your hair will be up against strong gusty winds disturbing your styles and drizzly rain encouraging extra frizz. on day 2 your hair will be gasping for shades to stop the blond streaks from changing colour, on day 3 you will be contenplating the point of going to the hair dressers.....
Fear not, t we are 1 step ahead and have thought of some great tips for whatever the weather thows at you.

Use heat less
Don’t be tempted to use those tongs and straighteners.  Using too much heat on your hair can cause breakage and your hair is even more prone to this in cold conditions. Be courageous and wear your hair natural simply using moisturising sprays or lotions to keep your hair conditioned. If you can, aim to let your hair dry naturally instead of blow drying. The less heat you hair and scalp has to deal with the better!

Deep conditioning
Unpredictable weather means that your hair is more prone to breakage and dryness. Therefore, it’s important to keep your hair moisturised and nourished on a regular basis. ‘Replenishing’ conditioners will deeply moisturise and is great for tackling the chilled outdoors.

Tackling dry scalp
Massage on a regular basis allows oils to stimulate. Wear a hat or cap to protect your hair and scalp from the chilled temperatures. Although, make sure it is not worn tightly where circulation in the scalp is restricted. It may also be an idea to wear a silk or satin scarf underneath your hat as sometimes the materials can be tough on your hair. If your scalp becomes excessively flaky, apply natural oils directly on the scalp which will prevent dryness.

Wash and wet less
Avoid going out with damp hair. Ensure that your hair is fully dry before setting off outside. In such weather conditions  you dont know if its going to rain.  During these periods, aim to wash your hair less frequently and only when necessary. This is normally once every 5-7days

Protective styles
Try  wearing your hair in styles that require little maintenance eg buns and ponies or even short bobs like Victoria Beckham. If your going to wear your hair in a pony tail all day make sure you take down the style each night this will ease your hair and will be ready for the next morning.
